For years I've taken my Bose SoundDock transportable with me on vacation because it's easy to set up and sounds great. The only qoute was its relatively large size. For security and security reasons, I didn't want to pack it in my checked bag so I would put in it my carry-on roller bag with not a lot of space left over.
I've looked at a merge of other smaller transportable speakers, but their build quality and more importantly their sound quality wasn't nearly as good as the Sdp so I stuck with what I had.
Until now. I dropped by my local Bose store earlier this week to check out the newly released SoundLink. After examining and listening to it for about 30 seconds, I knew I had found a change for my Sdp when I go on vacation.
The Sl build quality is excellent, even good than the Sdp. It doesn't sound quite as good as my Sdp but it's very close. As noted by others, it's a snap to set up. And since the Sl has Bluetooth, my iPod Touch/iPad/iPhone is no longer tethered to the speaker, which is a big plus.
For transportable music nearby the house, like the front porch, back deck, etc, the Sdp is still my first speaker of choice, although I'll just as likely grab the Sl if it's handy. But for traveling, the Sl can't be beat. In fact, instead of packing it in the carry-on I'll just stick it in my satchel, giving me even more room in the carry-on and less weight in my checked bag.
